Jilin-1 Satellite Assists Flood Relief in Multiple African Countries

Since March 2023, central Africa has experienced continuous heavy rainfall and triggered floods, causing significant casualties and property damage in countries such as Kenya, Rwanda, and Somalia. In response to the request of the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), the National Remote Sensing Center (GEO China Secretariat) has launched emergency response efforts for the above-mentioned countries, and Chang Guang Satellite Technology Co., Ltd. has quickly coordinated and scheduled the resources of the "Jilin-1" series satellites in 25 batches, obtaining 20 satellites, 13 pre-disaster archive data, and 58 post-disaster programming data, and submitting them to the National Comprehensive Earth Observation Data Sharing Platform in a timely manner.

Using data from the Jilin-1 spectral satellite, wide-field satellite, and high-resolution satellite, the Aerospace Information Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and UNITAR jointly produced six special products on disaster areas, affected populations, infrastructure losses, and other disaster situations, and reported them to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA), the International Charter on Space and Major Disasters (CHARTER), and local disaster reduction agencies, providing information for disaster judgment and decision-making and disaster relief work.

Chang Guang Satellite Technology Co., Ltd. will continue to strengthen cooperation with China GEO, further promote the application of satellite remote sensing technology in global major disaster monitoring and early warning, and disaster situation assessment, and make due contributions to the construction of a community with a shared future for mankind.
